Grab Your Anger By The Balls, Then Squeezzzzzeeeeee.Hard.
A lot is said about anger, about ‘letting it go’, how damaging it is, the affect it can have on our bodies, our psyche, and our relationships. All in all, good stuff that you probably know all ready yeah?
I’m not advocating screaming at slow walkers, traffic wardens and the person in the cinema queue who takes an age deciding what to see AT THE COUNTER after waiting in the queue for twenty minutes just as my film choice is about to start… No.
Outrage is damn useful despite all of that! If you grab it by the balls and squeeze them, hard, anger can be the catalyst for dynamic change!!! Who knew change hid in the balls of anger?
Myself for example: I set up Facets originally as a blog because I was outraged by the lack of substance in women’s magazines. Definitely one of the best things I’ve ever done even though Facets is now a copy writing biz!
Most recently, having lost my temper at the exploitative nature of intern-ships in media, I’m now open to contributors , the illustration above was created by Diane Bishop, and if it wasn’t for her talent and my fury, there would have been no contribution from the awesome Diane (check out her portfolio here and hire her!), no reference for her and you would not be reading this article. Anger, used right, is fantastic!
It is how to correctly USE anger that so many of us get wrong. I try to use mine to change things, in however small a way. The key thing is to harness the awesome power of ‘F**k You’ and actually CHANGING whatever is pissing you off.
Women especially are taught to contain their anger, not to upset others and to put others before themselves. Martyrdom ain’t cool, and if you want to change the world anger can help shove you where you want to go! Outrage can fuel your empowerment!
Anger can give you the jolt needed to spark you to new places that happiness, contentment and joy will not.
Anger can kickstart a passion through outrage moulding it into entrepreneurship, or simply working that second job because you are SO p***ed about the state of your finances.
Don’t bitch, don’t whine, don’t scream. Focus!!!
Do it, Do it now.
Update: I am no longer taking on outside contributors. Cheers dude!
